Punakha Dzong, officially known as Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness), is one of Bhutan’s most majestic and historically important fortresses. Located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chhu (Female River), it stands as a symbol of Bhutanese architecture, spirituality, and national identity.

Location

Punakha Dzong is located in Punakha Valley, about 72 km east of Thimphu, at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chhu (Female River). It sits at an elevation of around 1,200 meters, making it one of Bhutan’s lowest and warmest dzongs.
