The pass is famous for the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, built in memory of Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives in a military operation in 2003 and in honor of peace and stability in Bhutan. Nearby stands the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), which features unique murals depicting Bhutanese history and the lineage of Bhutan’s kings.

Location

Dochula Pass is located on the Thimphu–Punakha highway in western Bhutan, at an altitude of about 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) above sea level. It lies roughly 30 km from Thimphu, making it an easy and popular stop on the way to Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang.
